The Importance Of Your Mindset In Anything You Do In Life

There are two distinct approaches to this thing called mindset. And the outcome of each type of thought lies at opposite ends of the spectrum.

The first is a “fixed mindset,” while we call the second one a “growth mindset.” Read on as GenuLines shows you which brings more success in life.

Sign reads mindset

The “fixed mindset” tends to see skills, potential and abilities as pre-determined. So, you can’t improve on them.

The growth mindset is open to the idea that there’s always room for improvement by way of working at it.

The “fixed” category tends to make you feel powerless. In the growth category there’s more optimism about who’s calling the shots so to speak.

But there are a few other big differences in these two attitudes.

The main one is how you view mistakes or obstacles and your attitude toward them.

For example, if you have a fixed mindset, you’re quicker to get discouraged by your first setback. The growth mindset and its optimistic attitude help you “make the best of it.”

Any negativity can turn into a chance to learn and grow. Are you getting the idea that the fixed mindset doesn’t leave much room for growth?

But wait, there’s more!

For one, there’s knowing that your mindset can have a major impact on your health and well-being. A depressed and discouraged attitude can suppress your immune system.

You’re more prone to illnesses. And you might take longer to recover from what your defeated attitude brought you.

With a growth mindset you tend to be sick less often- and happier too.

Experts on the subject agree that you have control over your attitude. Their consensus is that it’s smart to switch out of a fixed mindset.

And you can do it in any phase of your life.

This is good news if you find yourself stuck in the pessimistic fixed mindset. Your fatalistic attitude toward accomplishments and success don’t have to be permanent.

You can always improve.

Is Your Own Negativity Affecting Your Friendships?

Is Your Own Negativity Affecting Your Friendships?

You’ll find lots of information online about how to do away with negative friendships. But what if the source of negativity is coming from you?

It isn’t always easy to recognize when you’re being negative. Some people have no idea how their negativity is impacting others.

man loses friendships

Today GenuLines looks at how your negativity could be affecting your friendships. We’ll also look at what you can do about it.

Are You a Negative Friend?

It isn’t always easy to see the negativity in ourselves. You can be unaware that you’re projecting negativity onto others.

So, how can you identify if you’re a negative friend?

Here’s a few signs to look out for:

You find it hard to maintain friendships.

You make plans knowing you’ll cancel them.

You don’t check in first or see how your friends are doing

Most conversations are about you

They don’t come to you for advice or support

Now, some of these signs may not be down to your own negativity. For example, you may not check in first with your friends.

This is because it always used to be you initiating contact. That alone would not make you a negative friend.

Many people find it hard to keep friends. Yet, if you generally find it easy to make friends and not keep them, there may be a problem.

Assess your friendships, including those from the past.

Is there a pattern, and could it be due to your negativity? Life gets busy and it isn’t always easy to keep in touch with friends.

But if you never contact anyone first, this is a sign you may be a negative friend.

Remember, friendships are a two-way street. Your friends need to know you care about them too.

The Impact Negativity Has on Friendships

So, why is it important to be a more positive friend? For starters, negativity can kill friendships.

Nobody wants to be around someone who always spouts negativity.

It brings down their mood, leading them to feel more depressed or drained after being around you. Another way negativity impacts friendships, is that it’s bad for the heart.

Studies have shown that negative friendships affect heart health. So, you could be impacting your friends’ health issues with your constant negativity.

These are only some of the problems you can cause if you are a negative friend.

When you bring negativity into your friendships, you won’t have strong relationships. Healthy friendships are important for our health and wellbeing.

So, if you do identify as a negative friend, now’s the time to start working on adjusting your mindset. It might not be easy; but, doing this will help you have much healthier and happier friendships.

5 Behaviors You Don’t See In Highly Successful People

banner for being successful

Successful people aren’t always on their best behavior. Sometimes they show their less than attractive sides.

But GenuLines wants to tell you about some tendencies that won’t show up in their daily inter-actions

5 Behaviors You Don’t See In Highly Successful People

Everyone has a different interpretation of what success is, or what it means to them. But, when you break it down, most everyone can come to an agreement on it’s meaning.

Success is accomplishing a goal, or attaining a meaningful purpose.

That may be a loving relationship, or it could be a form of artistic expression. It might be career advancement.

Regardless of what the goal is, true success is never an an easy upward, or stable journey. The world’s most successful people are aware of this fact.

And they often have behavioral traits which set them apart from the rest.

picture of bad behavior

If you’re struggling to achieve what you want in life, you may want to consider starting with an inward look. This might mean a shift in your mindset to bring you in line with how successful people behave.

When you work with great leaders and executives you notice what does and doesn’t work in the long-term. It’s not so much personal habits or intrinsic characteristics that determine success.

Instead, it’s about your behavior.

What does behavior mean? It’s about how you communicate and how you react to stressful situations.

It’s also about how you interact with the people around you.

Add to that the attitude you have in dealing with clients and colleagues.

It’s how hard you work. And whether you’re disciplined, and focused.

You may know some dysfunctional people who have gained success. But these behaviors will catch up with them.

Here’s a look at 5 behaviors that you won’t see in highly successful people.

Panic

High pressure and stressful situations in the business world are a common occurrence. Things don’t always go according to plan, and they often go horrifically wrong.

It’s just part of the territory.

What highly successful people don’t do is panic. If you can’t override that adrenaline spike and stay calm during a crisis, you’re not going to last long.

Fanaticism

While passion is a massive driver in success, you can take it too far. Become a fanatic and your energy and passion starts to work against you.

The result? Flawed reasoning, poor decision making, and a skewed perception of reality.

Laziness

When you’re driven to achieve greatness, you have one fundamental truth: it’s going to be a long haul. And it’s going to be a lot of hard work.

That’s why highly successful people are so disciplined, and highly focused. A lot of people are slackers, and quite simply, it’s why they don’t go on to achieve great things.

Naivete’

Okay, so we may all start out with a wide eyed, gullible approach in the business world. However, the sooner you turn skeptical the savvier you become.

And the better your chance at succeeding. Why is this true?

Suckers don’t succeed.

Highly successful people question everything. And they tend to trust, verify, and consider the source.

Oversensitivity

Thin skinned people don’t make great leaders, nor do they tend to be highly successful. They drive themselves crazy with every little criticism.

And they don’t obsess over every comment that offends or upsets them. That’s why seriously great business leaders often have a sense of humility, and a good sense of humor.

While life may be serious, you can’t take yourself too seriously.

The Importance of Resilience: The Survival Skill

banner on resilience

A big part of any survival plan is resilience. It’s crucial to endure a situation until you can get the upper hand.

Let GenuLines help you in the process as we look at this quality called resilience.

The Importance of Resilience: The Survival Skill

Failure is always an option. In fact, failure is inevitable,

Every successful person has had their fair share of failure. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, only that you get back up again.

The ability to recover after failing a task is resilience.

runners show resilience

Why is resilience important? Well, there are several reasons:

● Protection from overwhelming experience
Without resilience, every obstacle that you face can be daunting. Developing mechanisms for handling these difficult experiences makes them a little less scary.

● Handling stress
Stress isn’t all bad. It pushes us to act and make decisions in life.

Instead of stress being something to hold you back, you can use it to draw motivation and push you forward.

● Mental wellbeing
If you’re resilient you won’t let failure get you down. Repeated failure at a task can be draining.

Resilience gives you the mental toughness needed to maintain a strong psychological balance.

● Realistic mindset
Without resilience, we tend to have a different world view. One that doesn’t seem so intimidating.

Resilience can help you see the world for how it is. An often unnerving, threatening, and even terrifying place.

But it’s okay for the world to be a scary place. As long as you have the psychological capacity to handle it. you don’t have to bend reality to feel more comfortable.

● Make the best of a bad situation
Failure is not the end; it’s an opportunity. Failure teaches us to learn from our mistakes. We can use that knowledge to move forward more in a more efficient way.

If we don’t learn from our mistakes we can never improve and do better the next time.

● Improve the way you value yourself
Being able to bounce back from a bad situation can help improve your self-worth. You won’t see yourself as someone ill equipped to handle bad situations.

Resilience can make you feel strong powerful and worthy.

Relying on yourself isn’t always easy. But to do it time and time again proves that you don’t always need someone else to do something for you.

In turn, you’ll see yourself as someone who can succeed regardless of the challenge.

Remember, resilience is a skill that you can cultivate and grow with training.

Next time you find it difficult to pull yourself up from failure, do it anyway.

See how being resilient can change your entire mindset.

Fixed vs. Growth Mindset- Which One Describes You?

Mindset matters. Is yours standing still or all about forward motion.

Let GenuLines take the brakes off of your mindset and point you toward success.

Fixed vs. Growth Mindset- Which One Describes You?

There are two mindsets that go a long way toward determining your personality. A fixe mindset assumes that your character, creative ability and intelligence are unchangeable.

It insists hat your basic abilities are those you’re born with.

train brain for mindset
People with a fixed mindset often want to appear intelligent. But they don’t believe they can change their intelligence.

They’re afraid of looking dumb and that they’ll always look that way.

Common fixed mindset thoughts:

Either I’m good at something, or I’m not.
I can’t learn now; it’s too late.
There’s no point in trying if I’m going to fail.
I always struggle with…
I’m a procrastinator.
I’m not creative.
It’s hard for me to lose weight.

Growth mindset goes in a different direction. It’s the belief that abilities and intelligence can grow with time and experience.

That you can become smarter. that your efforts effect your success and with persistence you can learn.

A growth mindset sees basic ability as only the starting point for true potential. It creates a passion for learning rather than a constant need for approval.

Some common growth mindset thoughts:

I can always become better at something through practice.
I can learn whatever I want or need to, exactly when I need to learn it.
I see failures as opportunities to learn, to reassess, and to do better next time.
I can always do better at something if I want to, but it will take effort.
Determination and effort are the measures of my outcomes
I enjoy learning and growing, and learning is a lifetime pursuit for me.

There are key differences between a fixed and growth mindset. Challenge is one of them.

A person with a fixed mindset will shy away from a challenge, often from fear of failure. They may go into hiding to avoid responsibilities.

Challenge excites the growth mindset person.

They find valuable takeaways from their experiences. And they master the challenge and move to greater accomplishments.

Another key difference

A person with a fixed mindset sees mistakes as embarrassing.
They blame others or become defensive when criticized.

The growth mindset person sees mistakes as a lesson learned. They are less likely to take criticism personally.

They’re open to criticism, believing it helps improve their ability to do better next time.

If you find you have a fixed mindset but you want to change, you can. It’ll take practice, determination, and being more aware of your thoughts.

Then you’ll be able to expect that the reactions to situations you want you’re likely to have. With these efforts, you benefit by having a more open, growth mindset.

And an open path to success in every area of your life.

5 Signs You’re Living A Meaningful Life

Living life is something we all do. But we don’t all live it in a meaningful way.

Life does leave clues, and GenuLines is on the case to show you if you fit the description..

5 Signs You’re Living A Meaningful Life

Have you been feeling restless with your place in life? Do you feel as if you’re wasting your life?

These are common signs that you’re feeling the need to live a more meaningful life. You may be doing this already but you have no idea that you are.

Today, GenuLines explores the five signs that you’re living a meaningful life. Let’s begin.

man living meaningfully

1) You’re doing what you love

Too many people ignore their passions. Your passion is your passion for a reason.

Follow and explore if you MUST do what you’re doing

2) You have your priorities in order

Living with purpose keeps your priorities in order; you know what’s important. You’re living in a meaningful life “sweet spot.”

And you’re spending less time doing unhelpful, unproductive, or unimportant things.

3) You know your purpose

This one tends to apply to far fewer people. Many don’t know or at least don’t think they know what their life’s purpose is.

4) You’re focused and driven

People who live meaningful lives and live them with purpose are in this category. They toughed out all the trials and temptations. and they’re living their lives with purpose and in a meaningful way.

5) You aspire to daily goals

This doesn’t cover everyone who lives with purpose. You may have more long-term goals in mind, but it’s a good way to start and a pretty common one at that.

Reaching daily goals makes you more driven to push on. Setting daily goals is a good start to training your body and brain.

You get used to working towards goals and achieving them.

This beats setting them and hoping for the best. If you want to see if you’re living a meaningful life, treat this article like a checklist.

Check off the things that already apply to you and see how close to living a meaningful life you are.

Where might you be able to improve? What new habit could you form to make you feel more confident that you’re living a meaningful life?

The intention today was to help you gain some perspective on your purpose and your life’s path. All the best on your journey!

Signs It’s Time to Change Your Mindset

Your life can change when you change your mindset. But it’s not always easy to see how this is so.

Today GenuLines opens your eyes to some of the indicators.

Signs It’s Time to Change Your Mindset

“The key to abundance is to stop needing more, and to start appreciating what you already have.” – Anonymous

Everyone is talking about changing your mindset to attract what you desire. How do you know when it’s time to change your mindset?

After all, you’ve been thinking the same way for as long as you can remember.
Or maybe you’ve had a rough patch and your attitude has gotten out of whack.

The Good and The Bad

pocket watch signals change

When you start having more bad days than good ones, then it’s time to change your mindset. These are some of the reasons you may want to change your mindset.

Our mindset is what produces the thoughts we have. It shapes our thinking, which controls our actions and how we process things.

If you have a negative attitude, then you start blaming and thinking the worst. Positive or healthy thoughts create a better environment.

For you and those around you.

Six Signs It’s Time to Change Your Mindset

1. You’re always focused on failure
You get angry and disappointed over every failure without celebrating your success. You see yourself as a failure.

This sends messages to your mind that you’ll fail at whatever you try to do. Instead: Keep a success diary.

Acknowledge every success every day, no matter how small.
2. You have a victim mentality
You’ve had bad experiences or others you love hurt you. It could be an event that traumatized you and you’re still holding onto those moments.

Instead: Forgive and let go of the past.

3. You have social media envy

You’re see glamorous lifestyles of people online, and it makes you feel worse about yourself. You devalue what you have.

You focus on what you don’t have or aren’t doing.
Instead: Think about what you do have and show gratitude for it.

There are billions of people on this planet and at least a billion would love to have your life.

4. You see work as a chore

You dread going to work, complain about doing the work, or think it’s a burden. Instead, see your job as a way of providing value to others and having an impact on you and others around you.

Being able to work gives you the opportunity to contribute to society.

5. You obsess about things you can’t control or change
You complain about what you can’t control. Things like the weather, government, traffic and other people.

Your mind fills with everything you don’t like, rather than what you can control, which is yourself. Identify ways to change and control your own actions and thoughts.

You’ll make your experiences more positive.

Stop complaining. Start taking action that will bring you a greater sense of accomplishment and plenty.

6. You lack gratitude for what you have
You focus on what is wrong with things or the world, or the inadequacies in yourself and others. Instead, acknowledge that no one is perfect, and everyone learns lessons as they go.

Focus on identifying the positive things you’re grateful for every day.
Know that the reason you rarely feel happy and content is because of a negative mindset.

Know that it’s time to change your mindset to feel better about yourself.
Then be ready to attract more of the good stuff into your life.

How Changing Your Mindset Can Improve Your Life

Is it time to re-consider your mindset? The beginning of the year is a good time to give it some thought.

While you think it over keep these GenuLines tips close at hand.

How Changing Your Mindset Can Improve Your Life

“See yourself living in abundance and you will attract it. It always works, it works every time, with every person.” – Bob Proctor

I’m guessing that you don’t often think about how your mindset affects your life. You’ve always thought this way.

Either because of your upbringing or other circumstances.

This in fact does affect your life. By changing how you think you can improve your life.

boy changes his mindset

Abundance mindset, scarcity mindset, fear mindset, fixed mindset, growth mindset, and confident mindset. These of some of the different types of mindsets we have.

Each unconscious and conscious belief affects our lives every moment.

Self Improvement

Here are some ways changing your mindset to an abundance or growth mindset can improve your life.

You aren’t afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Changing to a growth mindset allows you to see the many paths available to you in whatever you’re seeking.

These can include job advancement, creative outlets or something more personal. This allows you to move forward rather than being stuck in the same place.

When you make these changes, you see there are plenty of resources to go around. Now, there will be competition, but you’ll see the opportunities in every aspect of your life.

You become comfortable sharing ideas without feeling threatened or intimidated. This leads to better choices, environments and relationships.

You aren’t afraid of being a part of a team and participating in group situations.

Relationships

Setting your sights on growth helps you build better personal and romantic relationships. You realize people will always have differences.

You find that a relationship involves learning about and from each other. And you grow together and develop skills to work well together.

You’ll begin to judge yourself and others less. You won’t have time to waste on judging what others are saying or doing. Instead you’ll be focusing on making progress in your life.

The growth mindset has you accepting constructive criticism for what it is and using it for growth. It helps you be more confident because you won’t need validation to reassure you that you’re doing it right.

You Can Change

And it will improve your life. You can cultivate, learn, practice and grow new skills.

You no longer worry about what will happen. Instead you’ll commit to the process of doing, finishing and learning along the way.

Your growth will help you become a better person. Your skills will grow and you’ll build relationships.

You’ll step out of your comfort zone to go after what you want and believe you’ll get it.

What Is Prosperity? ( And How Do You Find It?)

Prosperity isn’t guaranteed in life. First you have to know what it is, then know how to get there.

The following is a GenuLines road map aimed at getting you to your destination.

What Is Prosperity? ( And How Do You Find It?)

Okay, let’s have a look. The dictionary definition is – ‘The state of being prosperous’

Well that wasn’t much help. So, what is the definition?’

piggy bank means prosperity

Prosperous means – ‘successful in material terms, bringing wealth and success.’

Okay now we’re getting somewhere. We know what prosperity is, but how do we go about finding it?

Let’s Talk About Prosperity

Although we have the dictionary definition above, I’m not real happy with it.

Yes prosperity can apply to material wealth and success. But it can also take in mental, emotional, and even spiritual wealth and success too.

But what if it doesn’t reach into every facet of our lives?

To find prosperity in all areas, we have to be very clear about the things that we want in our lives. And the things that we don’t want.

We must also make sure that we’re living a way of life that removes anything that doesn’t serve us. Examples include addictions to negative behavior or people.

Internal & External Prosperity

You can’t consider only your external environment or external resources.

You want to secure your external and internal prosperity. We do this through the means of internal mental and emotional mastery.

So even if you do lose your material wealth you won’t lose your ability to be happy. You can stay in a state of internal peace.

Bull’s-eye!.

To summarize: know yourself to the best of your ability. Then develop a better mindset and way of life.

One that supports, encourages and cultivates this innate capacity for prosperity. For you and for others, too.

You’ll become a force for good. The world, your world¸ will be a much brighter place if you can do this.

So, get to work. At the end of the day, true prosperity comes from you.

No one in the world can give this to you. You’re going to have to forge this one for yourself.

All the best!

Do You Have What It Takes to Think Strategically?

You think clearly, but to think strategically is something else again. There are some important features that are part of this process and GenuLines gives you a look at a list to get you started.

Do You Have What It Takes to Think Strategically?

“Curious, Not Judgmental.” – Walt Whitman

Strategic thinking is a wide-ranging skill.
It affects how you think, assess, view, solveSuggestion to think problems.

It goes a long way toward creating a future for you and others. It’s knowing what you want to achieve and how to achieve it.

It’s not always easy to develop a strategic approach since it’s both mindset and technique. Strategic thinkers are able to see the big picture,

identify the possible impact and set up a plan to get there.

Common ground

Strategic thinkers have seven main qualities in common:

Vision, Perceptiveness, Assertiveness, Framework, Flexibility, Emotional Balance, and Patience

Let’s look at those in more detail.

They have a knack for logical and creative thinking using both left and right sides of the brain.

Strategic thinkers can develop a razor sharp vision for business or personal needs.

They’re flexible in their planning. They set up benchmarks to guide them.

And they recognize opportunities to revise plans when they need to.

Self aware

Strategic thinkers are aware and perceptive of themselves and what’s around them. They recognize subtle external and internal clues to guide their direction.

And they grab opportunities for themselves or their company or organization.

They listen, hear, and understand what others say. They read and observe whatever they can to use as a guide.

And hey often have “Ah Ha” moments while relaxing or doing other activities.

Strategic thinkers have a clear definition of their goal. Their action plan breaks down into tasks.

It includes lists of needed resources or a specific timeline.

Self care

The best thinkers take time for themselves. It can be a retreat.

A walk through someplace special to them. Relaxing in the lobby of a historic hotel.

Or an afternoon alone with a blank sheet of paper for writing down your thoughts.

Strategic thinkers are often lifelong learners. They draw from every experience put before them and in every part of life.

Their creativity is balanced with a realistic sense of what’s possible in the long term. They refer to themselves as realistic optimists.

Enlisting help

Strategic thinkers often seek advice, confide in, and offer ideas for feedback. This can come from a coach, mentor, a peer group or elsewhere.

They’re non-judgmental. and don’t allow themselves to judge their own thoughts.

Strategic thinkers are patient. They don’t rush to conclusions.

Great ideas need time to develop into success in the future, and they’re aware of this. They see a potential for how the world should be and take the steps to get there.

Strategic thinkers set up and commit to deadlines.

Know thyself

They are conscious of their own biases.

They’re observant, watching before forming a judgement.

They understand other people’s intentions, desires and hopes.

Strategic thinkers make quick informed decisions.

They’re good communicators. They communicate what they want and need through clear directions or orders.

They respect the thoughts and desires of others.

They’re calm under pressure.

Strategic thinkers have a high level of confidence and self-esteem.

They know their weaknesses and seek advice from others in those areas.

They’re flexible thinkers so they can shift gears and think about things in more than one way.

Strategic thinkers develop skills that allow them to have a vision. They see where they want to go and they create the plan and begin the steps to get there.

You too can develop these skills and become a strategic thinker.
