1. Get up on time

Starting the day with repeated hits of the snooze alarm sets a bad tone for the rest of the day. You set the alarm with the intention of rising at that hour – why are you breaking that promise to yourself?

By getting up on time, you’re putting a positive start on the day. Shouldn’t you give yourself the best odds of a good day as possible?

2. Make every meal healthy

It’s hard to feel energized when you’re slogging along on a diet filled with fats and sugars. When you put more healthy choices onto your plate, you will feel better.

Your mind will be sharper, and you’ll be better energized to get through the day.

Start small. Add a salad to your meal.

Or replace dessert with that piece of fruit instead.

3. Exercise

Fancy equipment or huge time investment isn’t necessary here. Start small.

Try taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator.

4. Read more

Dedicate a half hour of every day to your mind. It’ll stay sharp while you expose yourself to new ideas.

Pick books that inspire you or encourage you to think.

5. Be an ‘idea’ person

Make a goal of writing down a few ideas every day. Some researchers suggest ten.

But even one new idea a day gives you material to challenge yourself.

6. Become more mindful

Meditate. Even a brief meditation has a positive impact.

It can reduce stress and lower your heart rate. Plus it corrals your mind when it’s running in a million directions at once.

7. Think about your day

When you finish the day, reflect on your accomplishments. Focus on the things you’re proud of, on the things that made you smile.

These actions shouldn’t take long – even 15 or 30 minutes a day on some of these is enough to create lasting change. You’ll not only feel better, you’ll like the person you’re becoming.

This is building ‘you’ at your best. If a small change can do all that, then isn’t it time you got started?

Are You a Prisoner of Procrastination?

We don’t like to admit to our procrastination. We say and do things that make us feel that we’re not doing it.

It’s a habit that GenuLines wants to help you break.

Are You a Prisoner of Procrastination?

Procrastination is a thief. It robs you of precious minutes and hours, before you realize they’re gone.

procrastination spelled outYou wonder where the time went but it’s too late.

You intended to complete al task today but put it off until tomorrow. And there was good reason to do so, or so you thought.

False Faces

Procrastination comes in many disguises. Sometimes it’s called rationalization.

You say, “I didn’t get started on that project because the weather was too hot or I didn’t have all the parts.” You can always come up with good reasons to delay a project.

Procrastination can become a habit. Put off forming new habits and it will be your constant companion.

Priorities?

We find ways to delay a task because there are other things more important to do. These are usually excuses.

Like checking your email. Or playing an on-line game.

Or surfing the TV to see if you’re missing something interesting.

Decisions Decisions

You must recognize a real reason to delay as opposed to an excuse not to do something you don’t want to do. Ask yourself if you need to do that job.

If so then get it done and then reward yourself for a victory over procrastination. When the job is complete, step back and assess what you’ve done to see if it was worth the time and effort.

It could be you were procrastinating for good reason, but that’s rarely the case. Lack of direction can cause you to procrastinate because you’re not sure what to do next.

It Starts Here

Disorganization is a kind of father of procrastination. Get organized with a to-do list with the most urgent at the top.

Make a deal with yourself that you won’t do anything else until you do at least one thing on the list. You can make giant strides with tiny steps.

Huge projects can be daunting whether you’re writing a book or building a house. You can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel because the elephant is standing in the way.

Cut a slice out of that elephant one day at a time and soon it’ll be gone.

Be Decisive

Make a decision on what needs to done and do it. Even if it’s wrong at least you’ve done something.

Indecision can cause major delays in both your business and personal live. It’s easier to make a decision if you create a list of the pros and cons of what you must do.

Once you have a clear direction, your mind clears and the path opens up.

Fear

Fear of failure can cause procrastination. The failure lies in never getting started.

Difficult and dreaded tasks are rarely as bad as they seem at the beginning. Stop procrastinating today.

Don’t put it off until tomorrow.

Teaching Kids About Routine Through Chores

Chances are you don’t think much about your daily routine. Your kids probably don’t think much about routine, either.

But in this article, GenuLines looks at teaching about routine while getting some things done around the house!

call to action for routine

Teaching Kids About Routine Through Choresdishwashing routine

Give kids their chores and you can expect to hear some moaning and groaning. Even if you tie the chores to an allowance.

They’ll be happy on payday, but not thrilled to know they have to work for the bucks.

But, giving your kids chores teaches them much more than work for pay. Often there are considerations that go with the chores.

For instance, they’ll have to check the oil before using the lawnmower. They’ll have to make sure the mower has enough gas.

And, of course, they’ve got to know how to start it.

If weed-whacking is part of the job they’ll need to learn that that comes first. Kids will also learn they have to do their chores on a regular basis.

This routine instills in them the idea of a work ethic. Sticking with the mowing example, the kids will most likely have to do this once per week.

Easy does it

Even tasks that seem easy and don’t need a routine will have some sort of process. For instance, before kids load and run the dishwasher they’ll have to rinse some of the dishes.

They’ll have to load the machine in a way that none of the wash load breaks. Then, they load the soap dispenser and turn on the machine.

It’s a process much like any other.

You may not have thought about this but video games can teach kids about how to use routines to their benefit. Many of the games go through sequences and steps for advancing to the next round.

Knowing these steps keeps the game fun and interesting.

School sports for kids mean coaches and drills. These drills teach them the techniques needed to win games.

You can think of those as routines.

They’re meant to help the kids use the skills when they’re playing the game. The more they do the drills, the less they’ll need to think about what to do when they start playing.

The routines kids learn from their chores will carry through to their adult life. When they start their working life, they’ll be well versed in processes and routines.
