Are You Even Capable of Personal Transformation?

banner to help your transformationYou may have some sort of transformation on the list of changes to make in the New Year. Maybe you’ve been thinking about this for a long time.

Let’s pause for a moment as GenuLines asks if you have what it takes.

Are You Even Capable of Personal Transformation?

People seem to want changes in their lives. They might want a new career.

Or they want to lose weight. Some want to do something different that nobody’s done before.

They want to go through some personal transformation.

But is it even possible for us to transform?

man ponders transformationThink about the number of times you’ve made New Year’s resolutions. Did any of them last?

Many people give up because they know it’s an exercise in futility. Then, you have those who try over and over again to lose weight.

They try one diet after another and after a few months gain most of the pounds back.

On the other end of the spectrum are people who have overcome major obstacles. They’ve thrived, often never looking back from their new situations.

Do some of us have different wiring?

Most people are capable of transforming their lives. If that weren’t true, you’d have way fewer success stories in the world.

It depends on how badly people want to make changes. Sometimes, people aren’t ready for a change.

Your environment also plays a huge role in determining success in implementing changes. Being with negative-thinkers who discourage change is going to make succeeding difficult.

If you’re looking to transform, align yourself with people who want to help you succeed.

People are different. Some are naturals at making transformations.

And they don’t need help or encouragement from others.

They have strong wills and keep going until the change becomes part of their lives. Others need more help and encouragement.

Look to the past

Your upbringing could be a factor in how well you adapt to change. Let’s say your parents preferred the status quo.

Your first reaction to change might be hard, at least in the beginning.

Bear in mind, there are plenty of people who break away from the mold of their families. They make changes in spite of their family backgrounds.

Don’t give up. If something doesn’t work out, try something else or look at the situation in a different way.

Learn from your mistakes and failures and continue until you’re where you want to be. Determination and persistence are your biggest allies when making your transformations.

Granted, it’s never easy. If it were, everyone would make the necessary changes and change would not be scary.

Never let anyone stand in the way of something you must do.

Create A Vision of Who You Want to Be

banner for having vision

A vision for your life is like a roadmap. It takes you from point A to point B and beyond.

Today GenuLines gets behind the wheel to show you a few points along the way. .

Create A Vision of Who You Want to Be

If you’re unhappy where you are in life, it could be you are not creating the right vision about yourself.

viewfinder helps visionThink back to recent thoughts you had. Were they negative thoughts or feelings like you’ve hit a roadblock?

Shift your focus to a life that you want or a person that you want to become. If you want to have a life similar to an idol of yours, read about how that idol has become a success and use that as a guideline to help you accomplish something similar.

When you create a positive image within your mind, it will set up neural pathways to help you reach your goals. The more you reinforce this mental image the more pathways you’ll create.

If there is information available online that can help you with your vision, use it to your advantage.

Finishing Touches

Determine your vision and then the steps you believe will help you get there. Finally, continue to imagine that vision  on a daily basis.

Your brain will get so used to this vision it will become a subconscious process.

This is not to say you can’t alter your plan or your vision. There may be something you thought you wanted, but as you progress, you find this not to be the case.

There’s nothing wrong with that.

If this happens, create another vision and move on from there. Your brain will form pathways for this new vision.

If your vision is fine but the plan is not getting you where you need to be, don’t be afraid to make changes with it. Plans are only guidelines.

You can change as needed. This can happen when new information comes to light along the way, information which wasn’t available when you got started.

People Gonna Talk

Be prepared for criticism as you create this new vision for yourself. It’s yours and yours alone.

People may not understand what you’re trying to shoot for. Hold to your beliefs and prove them wrong.

Your critics are not the ones who have to live with the vision you make for yourself. You’ll find when you reach your goals those same critics will suddenly be on your side.

They’ll even claim to have been there for you all along.

It’s annoying, but that’s how people behave. It’s not worth the aggravation.

Just move on with your vision and let them think whatever they want.

6 Effective Ways To Change Your Attitude Towards The Positive

It’s tough to feel positive these days. A lot of us need what I call an “atti-tune-up.” Today GenuLines takes a look under the hood to help you run on all cylinders.

6 Effective Ways To Change Your Attitude Towards The Positive

Your attitude reveals how you live your life, how you treat others, how others treat you, and a whole lot more.

man feeling positive

It can help you be successful at home and work.

At the same, you’ll enjoy a sense of inner peace and confidence.

If you’re looking for ways to boost your optimism, these six effective ways can help you.

Have the Desire to Change
Change may be scary. But if you want a more positive attitude, you have to embrace change.

You’ll find you become a calmer, more accepting person. Your self-confidence will also get a nice boost because fewer things bother you.

Personal growth is a slow and steady process. Yet, it goes hand-in-hand with change and all the good that can come of it.
Find a New Vantage Point
Life shows us both a good side and a bad. They’re always there, co-existing. Which one you see depends on your perspective.

The next time something happens, try to look at it from more than one angle. If there are other people involved, try to picture it from their point of view.

Being aware of other people’s vantage points gives clarity and puts things in their right place. It also helps you see both the good and bad in everything.

To develop a more positive attitude, direct more of your energy to the good.
Develop Good Habits
Negative thoughts and beliefs lead to negative habits. A habit is a learned behavior that, over time, becomes reflexive. Start doing more of the good habits.

Develop one good habit at a time. For example, start with taking a 10-minute walk during your lunchtime.

Add 10 minutes each week. You may even find yourself waiting in anticipation for your daily walks.

Other good habits to try could be: Getting quality sleep each night. Cutting back on processed food, alcohol, or smoking

And being a more effective manager of your money.

Take some time to re-energize and de-stress. Give back to your community.

Practice self-reflection through meditation, journaling, or prayer. Find a hobby that indulges your creative side
Spend Time with Positive People
Positive people seem to find a way to see the silver lining in a situation. Their presence will lift your mood.

Their can-do attitude will remind you of your accomplishments and life lessons.

Hanging out with people who have a positive attitude can help you see things in a brighter light. It’s a scientific fact that, after a while, you’ll start to think and act like them.

You’ll start to be more optimistic and self-assured.
Focus on Solutions
Rather than spending so much time and energy focusing on the problem, try to focus more on the solution. Brainstorm one, or ten, ways to solve a certain prickly situation.

It could get difficult in the beginning. But soon, finding solutions will become an automatic response.
Live in the Present
The past contains all life lessons that have helped shape the person you’ve become. In the future your goals and dreams are lying in wait.

While they’re important, they’re both out of your control.

The only thing you can control is the present moment. You can either make it the best it can be or you can let it pass you by, causing you to spend the rest of your life feeling regret.

One great way you can live in the present is to practice mindfulness. Sit somewhere quiet for a couple of minutes.

Let your eyes wander to absorb everything going on around you. Whatever it is you’re seeing, take a few seconds to look at every detail.

Mindfulness meditation doesn’t only reduce stress by allowing you to live in the moment. It also teaches you gratitude for all you have and all you’ve accomplished.

Find Time In Your Busy Morning

Morning rush hour isn’t only on the highway. GenuLines knows you deal with your own rush before you head out the door.

With that in mind, here are a few ideas to help you “tap the brakes” during your earliest hours.

Find Time In Your Busy Morning

Mornings are busy and they can be quite chaotic. If you have a young family and plenty of people to get ready and out the door, you know this first hand.

The hourglass sands of timeThe good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way, no matter how busy you think you are first thing in the day.

The first few hours in the morning set the tone for the entire rest of the day. Do you want a panic scene, feeling like you’re running and trying to catch up?

Or do you want it to be calm, collected, productive, and with a feeling that you’re in control? It’s up to you and it’s all about embracing two simple concepts.

Get Up Early Enough

It’s tempting to hit the snooze button and catch a few more minutes of sleep, isn’t it? It’s even hard to set the alarm early enough that you have plenty of time for everything you want and need to get done.

I get it.

If you’re not a morning person, moving up the alarm by 30 minutes to carve out a little extra time can be tough. But after the first few mornings, it won’t be anywhere near as hard as you think.

And you’ll get used to it.

Getting up early enough and avoiding the snooze button at all costs is the key to an unrushed morning.

Buying Time?

Here’s the problem with cutting corners with time, or worse hitting the snooze button a few times. It gets you behind from the very start.

You have to rush to make it out the door in time and any little problem or speed bump along the way turns into a huge problem. Not being able to find the car keys becomes a major crisis.

It could cause you to be late for work and the kids to be tardy at school. Remember, your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day.

If you start it chasing downtime and things, that’s likely how you’ll spend the rest of your time.

But getting up early enough puts you ahead of the game. You’re in control.

You can take care of everything that needs doing in a calm manner. And you’ll still have time for the important things you want to work on.

In short, getting up early enough sets you up for an amazing, productive day.

Restructure Your Routine

Think about your current morning routine and where you’re spending time. Look for things you can change and tweak to find more time for the things you want to do.

For example, let’s say you want an extra 20 minutes in the morning to meditate. Look at what you could take care of ahead of time, get rid of, or delegate to make that time.

You may spend a lot of time getting breakfast for everyone. So get in the habit of setting the breakfast table the night before.

Arrange for your spouse or partner to get the coffee ready, so all you have to do in the morning is push a button. Teach the kids to make their own breakfast.

Have them take their dirty dishes and prep them for the dishwasher. Make sure clothes are set out the night before (including yours).

Give book bags, purses, briefcases, and car keys a designated spot. Know that they’re where they need to be before you turn in for the night.

Small changes like this to your morning routine can make a big difference. I challenge you to come up with a few more small tweaks that will save you at least 30 minutes in the morning.

Embody Persistence And Watch Your Life Change

We know that persistence is important when working toward a goal. But too often we get bogged down on our way to reaching it.

Push on toward success with this GenuLines look at persistence.

(You can listen to this article by clicking here)

Embody Persistence And Watch Your Life Change

Practice makes perfect. We’ve heard that mantra since we were kids.

But more to the point, this phrase embodies persistence. That’s the key to mastering most anything.

You can practice something once every two months and not get very good at it. But persistence will usually deliver results.

There are so many distractions. From video games to the internet, to television.

It can be a difficult proposition to keep focused on persistence. Putting aside the distractions frees you to become better at something you want.

It’s important to balance being persistent with not being too pushy. It’s one thing to want something and do whatever it takes to get it.

But that could encroach on others’ personal space or even their rights. You may have to take a different approach or back off and find another way.

This doesn’t mean backing away from something you desire. Persistence is the key to getting it.

If it’s within your rights to have it then you should go for it. Maybe you’ve been trying to get a promotion at work.

Your persistence may be the aspect that makes you stand out above the others.

You might remember the 1970’s television series, Columbo. On that show, Peter Falk played a detective who tended to be persistent with his inquiries.

This paid off for him since he was always able to catch the perpetrator. Of course, this is a fictional story, but the concept carries over into real life.

perseverance quote

Many people believe that if you want something enough, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. Usually, this is a result of persistence.

There’s some truth to this. But sometimes your limitations keep you from doing what’s necessary.

Try to determine what’s blocking you.

Say you failed at something, only to try it again later, It doesn’t mean that your efforts were lacking.

You just weren’t ready for it during the first attempts.

People can also persist in bad habits or unwanted behaviors. In this case, it’s best not to embody persistence and try to deemphasize the negative behavior or traits.

One great way to do this is to replace these negative aspects with positive ones. The effort is the same.

But the results will be a whole lot better.
