You’ve no doubt heard of the phrase ‘committed to excellence.’ Now, do you understand what it means?

The following quote is from Aristotle:
 
“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
 
Immediately you can see that excellence is a habit, and you can create most any habit. The best way to create a new habit is by setting new goals and creating a plan of attack.
 
Let’s see how you can do this.

The Why

First you want to define your reasons, or why, for wanting to commit to excellence. Does this pertain to your business, your family life or for some other reason?
 
If it helps write down your reasons and your why for wanting to achieve this.
 
If your business is your target there are some simple actionable steps that you can put into place. As for your clients, get into the habit of demanding more from yourself than they do of you.
 
You can please your clients by doing any of the following:
 
Giving more value
 
Over delivering
 
Finishing the work ahead of schedule
 
Adding a bonus

Be A Pro

Another way to improve is with a professional image. Is your website, logo, and brochure information looking good?
 
Are your business cards and other materials all up to date and modern looking? If not this is one simple area to improve upon.
 
Customer service is another area to examine. Make sure you have a great customer service center, whether online or offline.
 
Always respond to tickets in a timely fashion. And never get angry at the customer, regardless of the situation.
 
If you want to excel in life then start by putting forth the best effort you can. If you do this on a consistent basis you’ll have that air of excellence surrounding you.
 
This will rub off on other people and they’ll begin to view you in a different light.

Foster a Sense of Commitment 

When we connect to our community and environment, we’re a lot more devoted to it. Human nature is that way, even if we don’t want to do the activity in question.

Studies using couples and families showed interesting results. They found that spending quality time minus distractions brought more happiness.
 
And they have longer-lasting relationships than those who don’t.

Reduce Stress 

Distraction causes stress, and stress causes so many other problems – even physical illness. If you want to reduce your stress level, consider making lifestyle changes.
 
Ones that allows you to focus only on each activity you’re in as you’re in it.
 
Do the same with relationships. If it’s at work, find an electronics free place to talk.
 
At your work meeting, ask everyone to turn off unnecessary distractions. If it’s your family and friends, make a concerted effort to spend this time together without an agenda.
 
And ditch the distractions. you’ll be happy you did.
